As an initial step in strengthening the quality of learning within higher education institutions, enhancing lecturers’ competencies has become an urgent necessity. The implementation of basic instructional training is not only a means of developing individual lecturers’ capacities, but also a long-term investment in creating more effective, innovative, and impactful learning processes for students. Through this activity, lecturers are expected to gain new motivation to continuously adapt to evolving teaching methods and to deliver more meaningful learning experiences.

In facing the increasingly complex dynamics of higher education, lecturers are required to continuously improve their competencies, particularly in the fields of pedagogy and instructional techniques. This training serves as an important momentum to foster a spirit of lifelong learning among lecturers, enabling them to deliver learning that is not only informative but also inspiring and transformative. Through this activity, participants are expected to gain renewed motivation to develop more effective, innovative, and student-centered teaching methods.
The Institute for Quality Assurance and Learning Development (LPMPP) of Universitas Riau, for the first time in 2026, organized the Basic Instructional Skills Training (PEKERTI) Phase I, which was held from April 13 to April 21, 2026. The event was officially opened by the Head of LPMPP Universitas Riau, Dr. Belli Nasution, S.IP., M.A.

In his remarks, he stated that PEKERTI is a strategic program in improving the quality of lecturers, particularly in terms of planning, implementing, and evaluating learning. This activity is expected to serve as a foundation for creating higher-quality learning processes that have a direct impact on improving graduate outcomes.

The activity report was delivered by the Coordinator of the Center for Learning Development, Prof. Muhammad Nasir, S.Si., M.Kom., Ph.D. In his report, he explained that PEKERTI Phase I was attended by lecturers from various faculties within Universitas Riau. The program was comprehensively designed using both theoretical and practical approaches, covering topics such as instructional planning, teaching strategies, development of learning media, and techniques for evaluating learning outcomes.
Furthermore, he added that participants showed a high level of enthusiasm throughout the program, as reflected in their active participation in discussions, hands-on practice in developing instructional materials, and teaching simulations. This demonstrates the commitment of Universitas Riau lecturers to continuously improve the quality of learning.
Through the implementation of PEKERTI Phase I, it is expected to become an initial step in building a culture of quality learning at Universitas Riau, as well as encouraging lecturers to continue innovating in creating more effective, adaptive, and relevant teaching and learning processes in line with current developments.
